EU and EFTA Member States

The European Union (EU) has 27 Member States in total, 15 "old" ones and 12 "new" ones that joined in 2004 and 2007.
The 15 "old" Member States of the European Union are: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
The 12 "new" Member States of the European Union are:
- since May 1st, 2004: Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia
- since January 1st, 2007: Bulgaria and Romania
Members of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) are Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland
Members of the European Economic Area (EEA) are the 27 Member States of the European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
