Home » Au Pair ABC » Au Pairs from Morocco Au Pairs from MoroccoBe careful when receiving au pair applications from Morocco - especially from the city of Kenitra.
Why should I be careful? Most of you already know about this: there is criminal activity from a mafia like gang working out of Kenitra. They are trying to place Moroccan au pairs with host families in the European countries. There are still some host families that are not familiar with this, therefore this publication. Are all Moroccans criminals?Of course NOT, there is no more criminal activity in Morocco then in any other country. We are not trying to get people prejudiced against the people of Morocco. This is just a simple warning, to help you as a host familiy to be aware of these activities. They are all based on our experiences, most au pairs from Morocco will not arrive at your family or will leave shortly after, mostly within a couple of days. The Kenitra patternThe pattern is almost identical: the potential au pair is either a kindergarden teacher, a teacher or a children's nurse. You as a family will receive a fine application, or will have a nice conversation with the future au pair by phone - she speaks English (or French, Danish, Dutch, English, German ... ) almost perfectly. The photos will show a smart girl, your typical nextdoor girl. Most photos are showing a young girl playing with children or teaching them. You will feel proud of having found this 'Super-Nanny'. Will the au pair arrive?Only in very rare cases the au pair will arrive at your family. If she (we haven't heard of male au pairs yet) arrives she will not resemble the known photos, will have a different occupation and will not be skilled with your language. She will most likely leave within the following days without notification to search for an illegal job (restaurant, housekeeping etc etc.) What should you do?That's quite simple - delete the application you have received. A few users reported that they have received phone calls. In such cases there is another solution, notify the speaker you are not interested and finish the conversation. More than 44,000 'Good' au pairsTo give you an insight view: more than 47.000 au pairs registered with Aupair World in 2004. We have deleted approx. 2,500 registrations (fake, too old or too young, anonymous registrations etc.) But only 140 registrations have been made from Morocco or have matched the known pattern.
