Au Pair Programme America (USA)

Young persons from all over the world may become au pairs in the USA. The countries with which the USA do not have any diplomatic relations form an exception.

Please note that you need to apply through an agency, if you wish to go to the USA as an au pair!

In order to legally work as an au pair in the USA, you need a J-1 visa. You can only apply for this visa through one of 14 US designated au pair agencies.

Step 1: Find a family

Use Aupair World to find a nice family.

Step 2: Choose an agency

Agree with your host family on one of the 14 US authorized au pair agencies.

Step 3: Prepare all necessary documents

You need a health certificate, as well as a police clearance certificate and evidence of your childcare experience. You will need to submit these documents to your au pair agency later.

Step 4: Contact your agency

Contact the agency which you and your host family have agreed upon. The agency will be in charge of the legal and official au pair placement. This also includes applying for your visa, as well as booking your flight.
